After a walk in the morning, we boarded the boat in the afternoon, unpacked, learned how to evacuate the boat and where our "muster" station is. We had blue champagne for a welcome toast outside as the boat left the dock. Dinner was excellent. We chose the "local" dinner of The Netherlands, along with some great local wine. We had dinner with a really nice couple from Prince George, BC. We had a lot in common: 3 kids, business owner, performing kids, and avid book readers which made for a very enjoyable evening. During dinner our boat went through a series of "locks" which is interesting, and we saw a spectacular sunset.
Each night when we get to our room, there is an itinerary waiting with the plan for the next day, and the optional things to sign up to do. It also has a history of the city we are heading to and things we can do on our own, shopping and local treats. They also list the weather and their cocktail and coffee of the day.
It takes some getting used to sleeping on a boat. When the boat "shudders" it feels like an earthquake!

Today we cruised the Rhine River. We had breakfast then a meeting to hear all the options for the next two weeks. We are all signed up!We arrived in Cologne (Koln) at 3:00 pm local time, right on time. .
In Cologne we toured the city and stopped at the Cathedral, (the three relics of the Magi are here) Some other great things about Cologne: Chocolate museum, the local Beer, Kolsch, or sniff the original cologne. (This is where the first "eau de cologne" was manufactured and you can still buy the original scent.)
Tonight is the captains welcome reception and dinner! We got to dress up, but we didn't bring the camera!
