Day 12: Nuremberg

Today we saw some history come to life.

Hitler used to stand on this platform and speak to upwards of 250k followers each September. You have probably seen this in movies or historical documentaries of the third reich.

Hitler was having this arena built for him to celebrate his Naziism. It would have been 1 1/2 times the size of the one in Rome, but it was never completed. And he never spoke in it.
We also drove by the main SS barracks which now houses the immigration offices.  Hitler and his officers must be turning in their graves!
(Which is a good thing)

Next we walked around Medieval Nuremberg. We had a nice walk and learned more history
(see the pictures below)

This evening around 7:15pm we crossed the continental divide.  All these locks (some are about 30 feet high) got us to about 1,300 feet and officially we are on the roof of Europe.  Now we are starting back down.  We still have about 20 locks to go before we get to Budapest

A look at Nuremberg from the Castle

Time for a snack!
Cath likes her snack!

In the town square we have a Glockenspiel!
