Today we are in Passau, Bavaria (they don't like saying Germany). This is a beautiful little town where three rivers meet. The Danube, the Inn and the Ils. Last year they had a big flood, and you can see where the flood waters reached on the tower below.
At noon we listened to an organ concert in St Stephens Cathedral. It sound something like The Phantom of the Opera! It was very loud and not as melodic as I like. The organ is the largest in the world, but a few years ago an organ in Orange County added more pipes. (I am not clear how you can be the largest organ without the most pipes)
In the afternoon we crossed from Germany into Austria. Sort of a lazy afternoon walking around the deck of the boat getting our 10,000 steps. This is one of the first really warm, sunny days we have had, so pretty much everyone is on the deck for the cruising. 24 guests went on a 25 mile bike ride, and we pick them up in Engelhartszell. Also now that we are on the Danube, they can open up the upper deck again. Now the bridges are higher. I think we still have about 20 locks to go through, but now we are going down the "steps" not up. Yesterday Doug and I were on the half deck going under a bridge and you really do think you are going to be decapitated. One of the captains is very tall, and he has to duck)
Tonight we have a private reception for the River Heritage members. (Doug and I didn't even know were were members, but apparently our two land tours with Insight counted, since they are sister companies. One of the perks is free laundry service once a week!)
Our trip is almost over, I will be sad to leave this cruise. The next couple of days are jammed packed, and it looks like the weather will be nice. We have had some rain, but we just get out the umbrellas and continue on.
This picture was taken from our cabin. Not bad, eh?
