Day 11: Bamberg

This morning we started the day with a lecture about post WW2 Germany.  (Economy, Culture, Etc)  It was really interesting.

Then we had a walking tour of Bamburg.  This is a German College town and our tour guide was a college student.  This city distinction is that beer consumption per head is higher here than in any other city.  (we wonder why!)  There are 10 operating breweries, and the smoky Rauchbier, one of their varieties, was first brewed in 1536.  Germans refer to their beer as liquid bread.  Our tour guide was very excited about the fact that this town has to most operating breweries of anywhere in the world.  I did not correct her, even though San Diego has way more than 10.

Below are pictures of our walk this morning.

In the afternoon we took it easy, did a bit of laundry, hopped on the treadmill, wrote our blog, and watched the river outside our door.  (We are currently on the Main/Danube Canal)

Tonight is an Epicurian cocktail followed by and Epicurian dinner.
Later we have a soloists to entertain us in the lounge after  dinner.
Valerie May  "European Songbook"  I am looking forward to that.
